The Next Photograph.

“Which of my photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow.”

~Imogen Cunningham

This quote rings so very true for me at the moment. I have been making few photographs recently. I have been out a handful of times in the past four or five months, and I miss it. So, yes, I am looking forward to my tomorrow.  This is a thing I love about photography. Not only is it completely immersive, it is a fantastic thing to look forward to doing.

While hiking a random trail in a random area with no real plan or destination, I can get completely lost in my thoughts and emotions. This makes going out and creating images such a wonderful experience for me: having only one real goal in mind, simply enjoying the moment, holding on to the day's feelings, and conveying those feelings in a photograph.

When I am not hiking on a random trail in a random area, I can look forward to the next time I will be. Looking at maps, finding nearby places, and discovering what an area may have to offer builds excitement and anticipation of going out again. To relive that feeling of emersion into thought. The enthusiasm to create something that, in some small way, contains the joy and the experience I have had is a wonderful thing. It makes tomorrow a beautiful thing to look forward to.
