The Power of Printing

What do you do when you can’t get out and create photographs? Sometimes, it’s just not possible to do the thing you love to do. Sometimes life gets in the way. The grownup responsibilities don’t always need doing when the time is convenient. This can be annoying and frustrating, but that is how responsibility works. So, what do you do instead? Print an already existing image.

I have found myself in this very situation recently. I planned to get out and work on some time-lapse and star-tracked images. I was excited and looking forward to it. Things did not go according to plan. There were too many other things that had to be done. My photography outings had to be put on the back burner for other more critical and necessary obligations.

This did not prevent me from some form of escape. I did keep my photography itch satisfied to an extent. I reviewed a few of my favorite images from the year and decided to print my favorite.  Printing an image is such a fantastic feeling of accomplishment.  If I can't create an image in the field, the next best thing is printing them. Holding that large print of some of your favorite images is unbeatable. The print is the true culmination of all the work, the thought, and the planning that goes into creating an image. Ansel Adams said, “The negative is the score; the Print is the performance.” I couldn’t agree more.  If you can print your images, I can not recommend it enough. If you can’t do it yourself, do it with a print service. The day that print arrives will be magic. I love printing my images. I have an entire wall in my house filled with experiences and memories I can relive whenever I choose.

The next step is to get this beauty mounted and framed. I am looking forward to getting this up on my wall of memories. I printed this image on Moab Juniper cotton baryta paper for those interested. I love the look and feel of this paper for a lot of my images. (But paper preference is a whole different rabbit hole. )
